| Abstract Continuing Motivation in the Recruitment Cycle
This study focuses on middle school recruitment because it is usually the first opportunity for students to decline participation in music education. Recruitment research has thus far neglected to take feeder programs and the question of the importance of elementary general music teachers motivating their students to continue in music into account. “Mrs. Green” was chosen as the subject for this case study because of the remarkable record of students from her program, 95% in 2004, electing to participate in middle school music ensembles, while the other 51 elementary teachers in her district averaged 58%. Personal investment theory was used to determine why Mrs. Green was so successful at motivating her students to continue their music studies. |
